It’s that time of year when we start to reflect on the year gone by; what we hoped for, what we achieved, new experiences, and of course, plans for the future.

Here at The Market Creative we’ve had one of our best yet. We’ve been enthused and enjoyed working with our long-term clients as well as welcomed some new faces; we’ve been a part of projects that have both challenged and excited us; and we have gained new vigour by becoming an even larger team as new colleagues have come on board along the way.

We shouldn’t forget that we’ve also been recognised for our successes by being selected as one of three finalists in the MEN Young Business Award. We’ve also shot up the RAR Top Agency’s outside London chart to rank at No.43.

Here are some of our best bits from 2013, as a reminder of what we’re all about and what we can achieve with some of the best forward-thinking retailers and brands around…

• At the beginning of the year we were appointed to reposition Shipton & Co as a contemporary multichannel retailer of coloured fine jewellery. Several months later we relaunched the brand with the Colour Your World campaign – which tells the story behind Shipton’s stunning gemstones and their exotic places of origin; be that the tropical rainforests of Brazil or the hot desserts of Egypt. The new approach has been adopted throughout the business, featuring in the retail environment, online and across direct communications.

• During the spring we launched a new division of Sharps, which saw the leading bedroom specialist enter the living room furniture market. For the first time a range of modular living room pieces such as coffee tables and sofas were on offer, presenting a whole new set of challenges in terms of brand values and architecture. As well as brand guidance, we created a full suite of materials and devised a launch campaign to support the new proposition.

• The Market Creative took a sweet turn in the summer as we revived nostalgic lollipop brand Fruity Pops for Swizzels Matlow. Packaging received a more contemporary and fun look, while maintaining the brand’s heritage including the well-loved brightly-coloured spotted lolly wrapper!

• As the nights closed in we were comforted by a prestigious brand from the Silentnight portfolio – Rest Assured. A journey of customer insight drove the development of a new strapline ‘the bed your back would choose’- appealing to people aged over forty who are looking to ease the aches and pains of everyday life with a comfortable night’s sleep. A trade and consumer campaign, reaching more than 10 million women, ensued with a new, more luxurious look and feel rolled out across independent retailers and major chains.

• We ended the year on a high with the culmination of a project that has enthralled, excited and stretched our brains both strategically and creatively. We have been working with one of the UK’s leading builders’ merchants Grafton GB Ltd to launch a new way to buy kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms, Bohen. A journey of intense customer insight led to the creation of the name and brand identity and proposition. The brand was then brought to life through a multi-channel launch campaign involving the creation of a brochure, press, radio and TV ads as well as material in-store. The campaign launches over Christmas in the Meridian region and there will be more work to do in the New Year.

These are just a handful of our best bits. We undertook more brand and packaging work as well as point-of-sale to support a relaunch of The Fine Bedding Company.

It may be Christmas, but as retail marketing experts, it’s one of our busiest times of year and our work doesn’t stop here. For the first time, we have entered the motor industry with work on a branding project for a major name in the car maintenance arena – all will be revealed in the New Year!

So, watch this space, and have a very Merry Christmas.

With love from all at The Market Creative x
