Colin Talbot

Colin Talbot

Content Director

Colin has spent the last 10 years working with some of the world’s most well-known Tech, Retail and FMCG brands. As an early adopter of using social media as a marketing tool, he uses his audience first approach to develop content marketing strategies that allow brands to nurture their customers towards sale and ultimately become advocates of their products and services. His ambition in life is to rid social media of terrible branded content.

My Favourites

BRAND

I love technology and gadgets so it’d be easy to say Apple, and I am a massive advocate of their brand. But I do have a soft spot for Sony. They’re the reason the consumer tech industry is what it is today. They invented quality music on the go with the Walkman and Discman. They invented HD and 4K visualisation and made it accessible en masse. They, believe it or not, build the lenses that go into Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhones…and let’s not forget that they still pioneer the way in gaming with Playstation.

National

Being a lover of fashion as well as an easy and clean customer journey, ASOS.com are easily my favourite national brand. They’ve really understood how customers buy online and the issues they may face by not being allowed to try on clothes first.

My Favourites

NATIONAL BRAND
I have to say it’s Red Bull – health issues aside – as their ability to embody such attitude, energy, daring and skill and have such an impact in bringing about the golden age of extreme sports has to be admired. Shame I’m a Mercedes F1 fan…

ONLINE
I’m going to cheat here and say Playstation – as I’m a born and bred gamer, the Playstation Network has never failed to impress. And with the advent of Playstation VR – it’s only set to get even better!

Specialising in branding, advertising and in-store marketing, James loves to come up with ways to improve his clients’ marketing strategies and advertising activity.

My Favourites

NATIONAL BRAND
Under Armour.  A bold vision matched by a seriously brave strategy. By signing-up a host sport stars who are right at the top of their sport (such as Jordan Spieth, Steph Curry, Michael Phelps and Anthony Joshua) Under Armour has made a serious dent in Adidas and Nike’s dominance of the sport and fitness category. Its advertising is striking and memorable and the clothing has the right mix of technical excellence and style to boot.

LOCAL BUSINESS
Finisterre (finisterre.com). Okay, not that local (they are based in St Ives), but Finisterre is a manufacturer and retailer of innovative clothing intended for use by cold-water surfers. The brand prides itself on using responsibly sourced fabrics and there is a real no-frills, honest approach to the thinking behind the designs and purpose of each piece of clothing. You can sense the passion for what the business stands for and the coats in particular are incredibly lightweight, warm and well-made. I’ve no doubt the store experience would be a good one; shame they are all by the sea (and in London, obviously).

My Favourite

NATIONAL BRAND
As an outdoor enthusiast, I’m a big fan of Snow and Rock. Combined with Cycle Surgery and Runners Need, all typically found in a single store, they offer everything I need. With an expansive range of products, regular seasonal updates and expert advice from enthusiastic staff, I find a visit where I can interact with the product a much more rewarding experience than shopping online.

And, when it comes to purchase, they even suggest price matching on your behalf to ensure you get a really good deal. Perfect.

My Favourite

NATIONAL BRAND
It has to be Lego. As one of the world’s most powerful brands, it has taken colourful, plastic bricks and turned them into experiences whether it be from a learning or entertainment perspective. This has been cleverly done through many licensed partnerships, the creation of animation and the ability to show the power of Lego through am educational perspective showing that learning through play rules.

My go-to online brand is Amazon but because everyone says Amazon I’ll go with Ikea. I think they do an excellent job of creating a seamless online experience making product navigation easy and straight forward whilst also offering great design tools and inspiring content to help bring to life your vision.
